As with any tool, you need an instruction manual to go with it. Please
see my Safety Page for practical information first. Nursing necklaces
don't work for every situation, with every baby, but following these
tips will help you get a better result from your nursing necklace.
Over the last 5 years I have gotten some good feedback on how to best
use a nursing necklace and I would like to pass them along to you.
- When you get your nursing necklace, let your baby play with it for
a few minutes while you hold it.
- After the initial introduction to the necklace, don't let your baby
play with it again, unless you are wearing it while breastfeeding
or bottle feeding. Letting the baby play with it may cause her to
get used to seeing it and it no longer being new and engaging enough
to keep her attention. Also by only letting her play while nursing,
you give her the idea that she has to nurse to see and touch it.
- Put it on for your next nursing session. If he pulls off to hold
and look at it, take it off and put it out of sight. Try putting it
on again in a few minutes or the next feeding session. Keep trying
and eventually he will understand that the necklace means feeding
and feeding means the necklace.
- If you are having a specific issue with nursing in public, consider
getting one just for NIP and putting it in the diaper bag.
- If your baby is squirmy for diaper changes, consider a separate
necklace just for that.
If you have found a different way of using your nursing necklace please
email me about it so I can put it here and help other moms.
Safety is my number one priority! My necklaces have
been tested by the US Consumer Safety Product Commission. Read the report
